Wolf River Development Company’s Dream Catcher Housing Initiative and Mavid Construction Celebrate Historic Groundbreaking
Wolf River Development Company (“WRDC”) is proud to announce the launch of the Dream Catcher Housing Initiative (“DCHI”), a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization. Homeownership plays a critical role in empowering families, strengthening our community, and preserving our cultural heritage. Through building safe, affordable, and energy-efficient houses and supporting families’ journeys towards homeownership, the Dream Catcher Initiative is helping make homeownership a reality for more families in our community.
In partnership with Mavid Construction Services, LLC (“Mavid Construction”), the Dream Catcher Housing Initiative has officially broken ground on its inaugural project located in the Pine Meadows addition of Keshena, WI. The Pine Meadows project is the first new multi-home construction project on the Menominee Reservation in more than 25 years and includes the extension of Pine Meadows Road into a new cul-de-sac to serve the community. Each new home will feature three bedrooms and two-and-a-half bathrooms, plus optional upgrades such as a garage, deck, and an additional bedroom.
The new homes are expected to be available for purchase in late 2025, with project completion anticipated in early 2026. All homes developed under the Dream Catcher Housing Initiative will be available for purchase by Menominee tribal members through a residential land lease on Tribal Trust land.
The Dream Catcher Initiative reflects WRDC and Mavid’s shared commitment to helping build a stronger future for the Menominee Nation through addressing a critical need: safe, high-quality housing families can be proud to call home.
“Tribal families encounter many barriers trying to fulfill the dream of homeownership on their reservation lands. The Dream Catcher Housing Initiative was created to help make those dreams a reality by knocking down barriers and paving a path for tribal members to become homeowners,” said Crystal Chevalier, CEO of WRDC.
WRDC and DCHI are both tribal businesses led by tribal leadership. Accordingly, Ms. Chevalier added, they “[U]nderstand how critically important the work of building homes on the reservation is.” In partnership with Mavid Construction—also Native-owned and led—they’ve broken ground on three new construction homes for the community within months of resolving to do so: what Ms. Chevalier notes is “a powerful reminder of what’s possible when Tribal and business leaders work together.”
“We are honored to be part of the team actualizing WRDC’s dream of bringing new homeownership opportunities to the Menominee Nation. It’s a vision we share. The Dream Catcher Initiative is more than construction: it’s a step toward a future where Native families design, build, and own the homes that shape their lives and communities,” added Zoar Fulwilder, Managing Partner of Mavid Construction.
WRDC and Mavid Construction plan to build on this partnership to develop additional homes in the future, continuing to expand housing opportunities for Menominee families.
More information about home-buyer pre-approval requirements, eligibility criteria, and the housing application process will be announced in the coming weeks. In the meantime, interested Menominee tribal members are encouraged to follow WRDC and Mavid Construction on Facebook for updates on application details as they become available.
